Tragedy In Ilorin As Young Man Stabbed To Death Over Girlfriend Dispute

A tragic incident has thrown residents of Ilorin, Kwara State, into mourning following the alleged killing of a 25-year-old man, identified as Hammed Usman Tunde, during a heated altercation reportedly linked to a disagreement over a girlfriend.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Oja Gboro Quarters in the Ilorin metropolis, when Tunde and his friend, known simply as Gafar, got into an argument while patronising a sugarcane vendor.

Eyewitnesses recounted that what began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into a violent confrontation. In the heat of the moment, Gafar, said to be 21 years old, allegedly drew a knife and stabbed Tunde in the chest.

The victim, who lived at Ile-Soro 2, Oja Gboro, in the Isale Koko area, was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. He was later transferred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

The suspect, believed to hail from Ile Olowo, fled the scene moments after the attack. His current whereabouts — along with those of his family members remain unknown as of press time.

Speaking in tears, a female relative of the deceased described the incident as “a senseless and devastating act.” She urged the Kwara State Government and relevant security agencies to ensure that the culprit is brought to justice, noting that Tunde was a peace-loving young man who “did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner.”

The remains of the deceased were laid to rest on Wednesday according to Islamic rites at his family residence in Oja Gboro.

Residents of the area have since called on the authorities to intensify efforts to arrest the suspect and curb the rising wave of violent confrontations among youths in the state capital.
