The ancient town of Dange came alive yesterday as residents, dignitaries, and well-wishers converged to witness a moment of history, which is the formal turbaning of Barrister Sa’adat Yunusa Mohammed as the first-ever Gimbiyar Dange in Sokoto State.
The colourful and culturally rich ceremony was presided over by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Usman Dange, the revered Emir of Dange, who described the recognition as a well-deserved honour for a woman whose compassion, intellect, and commitment to service have touched countless lives across Northern Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Emir praised Barr. Sa’adat’s “relentless and selfless service to the people of Sokoto State,” adding that her leadership represents “the rare blend of humility, strength, and purpose that defines true nobility.”
Barr. Sa’adat Yunusa Mohammed currently serves as the Special Adviser to the Sokoto State Governor on Poverty Reduction Agency.
She is also the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Sa’ara Mata Foundation, a non-governmental organization devoted to women and youth empowerment, educational support, and social justice advocacy.
Through her foundation, Barr. Sa’adat has initiated several humanitarian projects, including food drives, medical aid, and entrepreneurship programmes targeted at women and vulnerable communities across the Northwest.
A trained lawyer and policy advocate, her deep understanding of law and governance has played a significant role in shaping poverty alleviation strategies within Sokoto State.
Beyond public service, she remains a pillar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Northern Nigeria, where her political influence and grassroots mobilization efforts were instrumental in securing widespread support for the party during the 2023 Presidential Elections.
As drums echoed through the ancient town and the Emir’s palace brimmed with jubilation, one message resonated among attendees: Barrister Sa’adat Yunusa Mohammed embodies the new face of leadership that blends tradition, empathy, and purpose.
Her turbaning as Gimbiyar Dange marks not only a personal milestone but also a symbolic call for more women to rise in service, compassion, and integrity.
