The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has inaugurated a new crop of executives to steer its affairs for the next four years, with a renewed commitment to strengthening party unity and preparing for the 2027 general elections.
The election, held on Saturday at the party’s congress in Jos, witnessed the emergence of 39 officials through consensus. Despite the broad agreement among stakeholders, delegates proceeded to cast their votes in affirmation of the aspirants, ensuring procedural compliance.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr David Umbugadu, announced the results and confirmed the exercise as transparent, credible, and conducted under the watchful eyes of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other observers.
“The process of this election is transparent and clear. We conducted it in the presence of INEC and all relevant stakeholders,” Umbugadu said. “By the powers vested in me by our great party, the PDP, I hereby declare all of you duly elected.”
In his acceptance speech, the new State Chairman, Mr Raymond Dabo, pledged to reposition the party for future electoral success and foster inclusivity among members.
“We are committed to rebuilding the confidence of our members and strengthening the PDP’s structure across Plateau State. Our focus will be on unity, discipline, and strategic engagement as we move towards 2027,” Dabo stated.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who attended the congress, congratulated the new leadership and urged them to prioritise reconciliation and collective interest over personal ambition.
“Your first assignment is to unite the party. The era of exclusion is over,” the governor declared. “Let’s heal our wounds, resolve past grievances, and move forward as one family. There are no more factions in the PDP in Plateau State.”
