The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Osun State chapter, has suspended the planned ‘I Am Alive’ verification exercise for retired judiciary workers in the state, citing the ongoing strike action.
The exercise, which was scheduled for October 6 and 7, was meant to confirm the status of retirees with federal entitlements.
In a statement issued on Thursday after its executive council meeting, the state chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, said the union’s industrial action made it impossible to proceed with the programme.
“We regret to inform members that the verification exercise for retired judiciary staff with federal shares, earlier slated for next week, will not hold due to our ongoing strike,” Adeniran stated.
The union urged the Chief Registrar of the state judiciary to formally notify federal officials billed to supervise the exercise from Abuja not to make the trip.
Beyond the suspension, JUSUN disclosed that work had commenced on preparations for the 2026 budget, with budget committees for the High Court, Customary Court of Appeal, and Judicial Service Commission granted autonomy to ensure adequate representation.
Reinforcing its strike rules, the union directed members to stay away from their offices unless explicitly permitted. The directive, it said, applied particularly to staff in the accounts and salary departments.
“No staff member should attempt to enter their office without JUSUN’s permission,” Adeniran warned, adding that financial activities must remain on hold throughout the strike.
The union cautioned against unauthorised withdrawals from the accounts of key judicial institutions, insisting that discipline and compliance were crucial to the success of the action.
