Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has expressed confidence that he will emerge victorious in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2026 Osun State election.
Omisore, a two‐term senator who represented Osun East Senatorial District between 2003 and 2011, made the declaration on Tuesday in Osogbo, where he formally announced his intention to contest the party’s ticket.
Speaking to journalists and party supporters, Omisore said he was optimistic that over 90 per cent of APC members across the state would back his ambition, describing his campaign as a reflection of “renewed commitment to party unity and electoral victory.”
“Going forward, I am expecting Osun State people to vote massively for the APC come August 8, 2026,” he said. “This gathering is to show the preparedness of our core members and to demonstrate how ready we are to ensure that I become the party’s candidate, by God’s grace, in December.”
He maintained that the party’s internal structures were solidly behind him, stressing that the exercise was an internal mobilisation effort ahead of the primary elections slated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hold between November 24 and December 15, 2025.
According to him, the APC remains fully positioned to reclaim the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with “100 per cent readiness and renewed faith in the people’s trust.”
“This is a movement of committed party volunteers drawn from every part of the state,” he said. “It is not yet a public campaign but a strategic preparation to reaffirm our party’s strength ahead of the primaries and the general election.”
The former deputy governor, who has been a recurring figure in Osun politics for over two decades, added that his experience in governance and national politics placed him in a strong position to lead the state effectively if given the mandate.
