Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State Government to take decisive legal action against those indicted in connection with his son’s death, including the singer’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba.
In a petition addressed to the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN), and signed by his counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN), Aloba urged the government to immediately commence prosecution against all those found culpable by the Coroner’s Inquest.
Specifically, the grieving father demanded the prosecution of auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered an injection to the late artiste shortly before his death in September 2023. He also pressed for the arraignment of other individuals present in Mohbad’s apartment at the time, particularly those who allegedly failed to seek prompt medical assistance.
The petition cited the Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which described Ogedengbe’s actions as both “unlawful and professionally negligent”. The Coroner faulted her for administering injections without a doctor’s prescription and criticised Mohbad’s widow for opting to treat her husband at home instead of taking him to a hospital.
Despite these findings, Shittu expressed concern that, over two months after the Coroner’s report, the Lagos State Government had yet to initiate any criminal proceedings.
“Our client, as a bereaved father who seeks justice, is deeply troubled that despite the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s verdict, no prosecutorial steps have been taken since July 11, 2025,” the letter partly read.
The counsel, therefore, urged the Attorney-General to commence prosecution within 14 days, citing the high public interest and emotional weight surrounding the case.
He further requested that if the government fails to act within the specified period, the Attorney-General should formally authorise his legal team to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state under the provisions of the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
