Mbah Joins APC, Says Leadership Demands Bold Choices

Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ending weeks of speculation about his political future.

Governor Mbah made the announcement during a live broadcast on Tuesday, describing his decision as a “turning point” in his political journey and in the state’s governance trajectory.

“Today, after long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah declared, noting that his move was driven by a desire to pursue a “new path” for Enugu’s development.

The governor, who was elected on the platform of the PDP in 2023, said his defection was not motivated by personal gain but by a deep conviction to align with “a broader national vision that guarantees sustainable growth and inclusion.”

According to him, “Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.”

Mbah explained that his entry into the APC marked a strategic realignment aimed at positioning Enugu within the mainstream of national politics. He added that the state must embrace new alliances to attract greater federal attention and unlock its economic potential.
