The management of the Kwara State University of Education (KWASUED), Ilorin, has issued a rejoinder to a publication titled “KWASUED Recruitment Scandal”, which was earlier published by Just Event Online TV.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, KWASUED and posted at comment section of Just Event Online TV Facebook page on Sunday morning, described the report as misleading and unfair, stressing that the ongoing recruitment process was conducted in line with established standards, transparency, and fairness.
According to the university, the institution had earlier advertised for both teaching and non-teaching positions, attracting over 17,000 applications for fewer than 200 available vacancies. Specifically, for the position of Assistant Lecturer—which the controversial publication focused on—598 candidates sat for the Computer-Based Test (CBT), competing for only 20 available slots, in compliance with the National Universities Commission (NUC) minimum standards.
The statement explained that, in the spirit of inclusiveness and equity, the university ensured that opportunities were fairly distributed across all 16 local government areas of the state. Benchmark scores were set based on the number of applicants and their CBT performance from each local government.
“KWASUED is a state-owned institution, and as such, every part of Kwara State deserves equal opportunity. Equitable distribution of opportunities across the 16 LGAs remains one of our guiding principles,” the statement read.
The university further clarified that while it upheld the principle of federal character, merit and performance were not compromised during the recruitment exercise, adding that verifiable records exist to back this claim.
“For senior academic positions such as Lecturer I, Lecturer II, and Senior Lecturer, uniform benchmark scores were applied to all applicants, including non-Kwarans, in order to attract experienced professionals capable of driving the vision of the new institution,” it stated.
KWASUED reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and excellence, assuring the public that the recruitment process remains credible and merit-driven.
