The Kwara State Police Command has commenced full enforcement of the law regulating the use of tinted glasses and unauthorised sirens on vehicles across the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ilorin on Thursday. She explained that the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, had directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Ladi Suleiman, to coordinate and supervise the exercise.
According to the command, the operation would be carried out statewide in line with existing laws, targeting all vehicles with tinted glasses—whether factory-fitted or manually installed.
Motorists without valid permits were advised to begin registration at www.possap.gov.ng, after which they must undergo physical verification at the State Intelligence Department, Police Headquarters, Ilorin.
“For persons not interested in obtaining the permit, they are strongly advised to remove such tints or replace factory-fitted tinted glasses with transparent ones,” the statement added.
The command also reiterated its ban on unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights, covered or obstructed number plates, and unregistered vehicles.
CP Ojo stressed that the exercise must be conducted professionally, warning field supervisors to ensure operatives avoid harassment or extortion of motorists. He cautioned that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action, while supervisors would also be held accountable for lapses under their watch.
