The Kano State Government has sealed off Arfat Lounge, a popular shisha joint located along Abdullahi Bayero Road in Kano, as part of its renewed crackdown on drug abuse and other social vices.
The closure followed a joint operation conducted by officials of the Kano State Tourism Board, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Kano State Police Command.
Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Kano State Tourism Board, Alhaji Tukur Bala Sagagi, said the move was in line with the state’s law prohibiting the smoking of shisha and the use of narcotic substances.
“There is a law that prohibits shisha smoking in Kano State, and the government will not tolerate anyone violating it,” Sagagi said, stressing that the enforcement would continue across the metropolis.
He advised owners of recreational centres and lounges to ensure compliance with state laws or risk being shut down. “Those operating places where people indulge in drug use should either clean up their businesses or close them before the government acts,” he warned.
During the raid, NDLEA officials reportedly arrested several suspects found with substances believed to be narcotics. The suspects have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
