A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Offa Local Government, Kwara State, Amb Lukman Ganiyu Ola has berated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the worsening insecurity in the state.
He said that it as “shameful” that residents are now considering relocation as a viable option for safety.
The opposition leader said the state has been gripped by persistent killings, abductions, and displacement of residents, leaving several communities deserted and markets shut, with a full-blown humanitarian crisis in the making.
He lamented the government’s poor handling of the situation, noting that security agencies in the state remain under-resourced and ill-equipped to respond promptly to distress calls.
“The security architecture is weak, the people have lost confidence in the system, and the government appears helpless,” he said.
The PDP chieftain highlighted several recent incidents that underscore the gravity of the crisis.
These include the September Oke-Ode killings, in which at least 15 vigilantes and hunters lost their lives and scores of residents were abducted; the abduction of senior officials, including the Director of Personnel Management and the Director of Legal Services in Oke-Ero Local Government Area; and repeated attacks on mining sites, where security personnel have been killed and ransom demanded.
He also recalled the ordeal of Offa residents who have fallen victim to bandit attacks, narrating how the wife of a community member was killed while her husband was abducted and later released after a huge ransom was paid.
“Many people in Kwara North have been killed, while others remain in captivity. These stories are too painful to recount,” he added.
According to him, only genuine and dedicated efforts can address the insecurity facing the state, stressing that anything less will not produce meaningful solutions.
“Kwara State has yet to demonstrate impressive action to confront these challenges. The people deserve better,” he declared.
