The Imo State Police Command has arrested three of its personnel in connection with an alleged cult-related incident and the brutal invasion of students’ hostels at the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri.
The officers—Inspector Obinna Peter, Corporal Amaechi Augustine, and Corporal Ejikeme Victor—were taken into custody following a viral video that captured police operatives raiding students’ lodges and reportedly injuring several occupants.
Confirming the development in a statement on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said the arrest was part of a wider investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma.
“The officers have been arrested and are presently in detention while the Command has commenced a thorough investigation into their alleged involvement in cultism and other related activities,” Okoye said.
He further disclosed that an Orderly Room Trial—a disciplinary procedure within the Force—will commence on Monday to determine the culpability of the officers.
The Police Command condemned the actions captured in the viral footage, describing them as “highly unprofessional” and inconsistent with the ethics, discipline, and values of the Nigeria Police Force.
Okoye assured the public that the outcome of the internal trial would be made known in due course, stressing the Command’s commitment to maintaining professional standards and restoring public trust.
