Yoruba nation campaigner, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has turned to the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, for help following the freezing of his bank accounts by the Federal Government.
Igboho, who stormed the monarch’s Bodija residence in Ibadan on Monday alongside some of his loyalists, held a closed-door meeting with the traditional ruler said to have lasted about 40 minutes.
A statement released from Igboho’s media team on Wednesday confirmed that the discussions touched on the spate of insecurity in the South-West, recurring bandit attacks in Kwara, and his prolonged standoff with the authorities in Abuja.
“The Olubadan promised to wade into the matter and help address the challenges Chief Adeyemo is currently facing, especially the government’s freeze on his bank accounts and his lingering designation as a wanted man,” the statement partly read.
It will be recalled that in July 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services, backed by soldiers, stormed Igboho’s Soka residence in Ibadan, killing two of his aides and arresting 13 others, after accusing him of stockpiling weapons.
During the meeting, Igboho congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the revered throne, describing him as “a unifying father figure for Ibadanland and the entire Yoruba nation.”
He added that he was open to dialogue with the Federal Government if it would lead to improved security across the South-West.
“Olubadan has always been a father to me, even since his time as governor. His reign will no doubt bring peace, unity, and progress to Ibadan and Yorubaland,” Igboho said.
