Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday relieved all commissioners and other public office holders serving in his administration of their appointments with immediate effect.
The development, announced in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, comes on the heels of last week’s Supreme Court judgment which effectively restored Fubara to full executive authority following months of political uncertainty.
Fubara, during a valedictory session with members of his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt, used the occasion to thank the outgoing officials for what he described as their “selfless contributions” to the growth of the state in the last two years.
The statement read partly, “Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the state in the last two years. Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect.”
The governor also tied the shake-up to Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary celebrations, urging citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the task of building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
Fubara assured Rivers people that his government would continue to serve with “renewed vigour,” pledging to prioritise peace, security, and development in the oil-rich state.
