United States President, Donald Trump, has announced a new directive ordering the arrest and prosecution of anyone found guilty of burning the American flag, with offenders facing a mandatory one-year jail sentence.
The President made this known in a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, stressing that his administration would no longer tolerate acts of flag desecration under any guise.
Trump cited his August 25, 2025 Executive Order on flag desecration, which empowers law enforcement agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Border Patrol, and the U.S. military, to enforce the policy strictly.
“To ICE, Border Patrol, Law Enforcement, and all U.S. Military: As per my August 25, 2025 Executive Order, please be advised that from this point forward, anybody burning the American flag will be subject to one year in prison,” Trump stated.
“You will be immediately arrested. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.
