FG Re-Awards Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Expressway To New Contractor — Akin Alabi

The Federal Government has re-awarded the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha Expressway project to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, following years of slow progress by the former contractor.

Hon. Akin Alabi, the member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Works, made the announcement on Wednesday through his social media platforms.

Alabi explained that the decision came after persistent complaints from motorists and residents over the worsening state of the expressway, particularly the section between Iwo Road and Asejire, which falls within his constituency.

He noted that the Federal Government considers the entire expressway as a single project, not one divided by constituency lines. He also revealed that the former contractor, Kopek Construction Company, had handled the road for several years but was unable to achieve the desired progress due to multiple setbacks.

“I am delighted to inform all road users and residents of Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency that the Federal Government has terminated the previous contract,” Alabi said. “The project has now been re-awarded to CBC Global Civil & Building Construction Nigeria Limited, a reputable multinational construction firm with vast experience in major infrastructure projects across Nigeria and Africa.”

According to him, the new contractor will adopt concrete pavement technology — a modern, durable approach that ensures the road’s longevity and eliminates the need for frequent maintenance for up to 50 years.

He added that while major construction will commence from the Osun State end of the road, discussions are ongoing to ensure that immediate palliative work begins on the most deplorable sections within Egbeda/Ona-Ara to provide short-term relief for motorists.

“I am already in talks with the contractor to commence palliative works on the most hazardous portions of the road,” he assured. “This will start as soon as possible.”

Alabi commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritising the project and ensuring renewed federal attention to its completion, describing the move as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.

He promised to provide continuous updates to his constituents as work progresses, adding that the reconstruction of the expressway would significantly improve transportation and economic activities between Oyo and Osun states.
