The management of the Federal Staff School, Adewole, Ilorin, has resolved to introduce a customised hijab for willing female Muslim pupils, following the intervention of the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.
Just Event Online TV reports, The decision emerged after a recent protest by some parents who expressed concern over the school’s earlier non-approval of hijab for female Muslim students.
In swift response, Olohungbebe led the ministry’s delegation and convened discussions with the school’s management, parents, and relevant stakeholders to ensure that peace and mutual respect were restored within the school community.
Following the dialogue, the National Forum of Heads of Federal Establishments, Kwara State Chapter, which oversees the institution, in a communique, resolved to design a hijab that aligns with its dress code and uniform standards.
“We salute the gallantry efforts of [the] Commissioner for Education, all stakeholders, the media and parents that have shown peaceful intervention,” the forum added.
The forum’s resolution allows the hijab to be worn by willing Muslim pupils while maintaining the school’s culture of discipline, decency, and unity among all learners.
The ministry’s intervention was widely commended for preventing escalation and for reinforcing the Kwara State Government’s commitment to inclusive education and the lawful expression of faith across schools in the state.
