Residents of Ejiwumi/Enji Community in Offa, Kwara State, have called on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to urgently replace damaged electrical infrastructure in their area.

They cite persistent irregular power supply and the community’s inability to shoulder further repair costs.

This appeal was made in a letter addressed to the Manager of IBEDC, Offa Business Hub, and dated October 5, 2023.

The community, through its chairman, Alhaji Kamaldeen Akeepe, who also serves as the Chief Imam of Ansar-ud-Deen, Offa, appealed for the replacement of a faulty four-core armoured cable and two feeder pillar units at the Ejiwumi Substation under the Offa feeder line.

According to the letter, the community had spent millions of naira in the past two years to repair and maintain its transformer and other related materials but is now unable to bear additional expenses.

Despite these efforts, residents lament that power supply to the area remains unstable due to defective equipment.

“Our community had spent millions of naira to repair our transformer and replace bad transformer materials in the last two years, which we could not afford such at the moment while we continue suffering from irregular power supply as a result of the bad material,” the letter read in part.

The appeal, which was copied to the Offa Descendants Union (ODU) and the Ibolo Consumers Advocacy of Nigeria (ICAN), urged IBEDC to give the matter prompt attention to alleviate the suffering of residents who have endured prolonged power instability.
