The newly inaugurated President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Comrade Temitope Afolabi, popularly known as BIG AFO, has vowed to usher in a new era of transparency, accountability, and student-driven progress at the institution.
Speaking shortly after his swearing-in, Comrade Afolabi expressed profound gratitude to the student community for the overwhelming trust and confidence reposed in him and his team during the recently concluded election.
He described the victory as a collective mandate from students who believe in “unity, progress, and positive change,” assuring that his administration would remain committed to their welfare, academic growth, and overall development.
“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every MAPOLY student who believes in the power of unity and progress. Together, we will build a Union that stands for justice, fairness, and excellence,” he said.
Afolabi emphasised that his leadership would prioritise open communication and active engagement with all stakeholders within and outside the institution. He pledged to strengthen ties between the Students’ Union, the school management, and external partners to foster a more inclusive and supportive academic environment.
He said his administration would operate on the principles of transparency, inclusiveness, and accountability, while ensuring that students’ voices remain at the centre of every decision.
“Student unionism is not just about leadership; it is about collective responsibility, representation, and progress,” Afolabi noted. “When students actively engage in the affairs of the Union, they help shape the culture and future of our institution.”
He called on students to remain united, proactive, and informed, stressing that their participation in union activities would help sustain the ideals of student democracy and empowerment on campus.
Comrade Afolabi also extended appreciation to the institution’s management, electoral committee, and all stakeholders who contributed to the smooth conduct of the election and inauguration.
He reaffirmed his administration’s open-door policy, encouraging students to reach out with suggestions, inquiries, and collaborations through official communication channels.
“Our vision is clear—to build a Union that listens, acts, and delivers,” he said. “The future of MAPOLY is bright, and together, we will make it even brighter.”
He concluded with a rallying call for unity among the student body:
