A popular disc jockey based in Offa, Kwara State, Abodunrin Ayoola Olatunde, known professionally as DJ Kenny, has accused a master of ceremonies, Agboola Taiwo, popularly called MC Saint Taiwo, of launching a sustained online smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation and business.
Speaking to reporters in Offa, DJ Kenny, who served as the President of the Disc Jockeys Association of Nigeria (DJAN), Offa/Oyun Chapter, from 2015 to 2022, narrated that the alleged defamation by the MC has been ongoing for over six years.
According to him, the dispute originated from a misunderstanding between MC Saint Taiwo and one of the association’s members, DJ Kaka, during a student event at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.
He explained that, “During the show at the 1000-capacity hall, MC Taiwo has an altercation with the DJ. He dropped the microphone in anger. The matter was later reported to our association, and we invited him to explain himself, but he refused to come.”
Kenny alleged that shortly after the incident, MC Taiwo took to Facebook to insult and defame him and several other DJs in Offa, including DJ Kaka, DJ Smart, and DJ Okay.
“Since then, he has been using social media to spread lies about me. He even accused me of using my apprentices for rituals and warned people not to patronize me. His latest post in July accused us of attempting to kill a female DJ, DJ Ice Flash, who visited Offa for an event,” Kenny stated.
The DJ further claimed that the defamatory content had affected his career, as some clients and event planners had begun to doubt his integrity.
“Just recently, an event planner handling a big wedding for a popular family sent me one of his posts, where he claimed I kill my clients. It’s wicked and damaging. This man created an entertainment group under Saint Taiwo Radio just to spread falsehood about me,” he lamented.
Kenny said he had reported the matter to the police and made a formal statement, expressing readiness to pursue legal action against the MC.
“The police assured me that they will help trace his parents so he can be produced. I will charge him to court for defamation of character and demand compensation. He has tarnished my image and hurt my business,” he added.
He also disclosed that MC Taiwo, who once lived in Offa, is believed to have relocated to Osun State, after previously being spotted selling noodles near Avalon Hotel in Offa.
“I’m a peace-loving man and I don’t interfere in anyone’s business. All I want is justice and protection for my brand and reputation,” Kenny concluded.
Efforts to reach MC Saint Taiwo for comments were unsuccessful as of press time.
