The Imo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, who reportedly slumped and died in the early hours of Wednesday.
Confirming the development, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, MacDonald Amadi, described Asuzu’s death as a monumental loss, not only to the ADC but also to the wider Nigerian society.
“The passing of Chief Asuzu is an irreplaceable loss to his family, the ADC family, and the larger Nigerian society,” Amadi said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Until his death, Asuzu was a distinguished figure in both political and intellectual circles. A native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, he was the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and founder of Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, platforms dedicated to cultural renewal and intellectual rebirth.
He also served as the national leader of I Stand With ADC, a coalition group that mobilised grassroots participation in democratic governance.
Beyond his political activism, Asuzu was a theologian, writer, cultural advocate, entrepreneur, visiting lecturer, and public affairs analyst. He held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was pursuing his doctoral degree at the time of his death.
The ADC, in its tribute, described him as “a loving husband, devoted father and mentor whose works inspired countless individuals across both religious and secular spaces.”
Family sources said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
