2027: Tinubu Will Lose If Atiku, Jonathan Contest Separately – Aide

A Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarewaju, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may lose the 2027 presidential election if both former President Goodluck Jonathan and Atiku contest on different platforms.

Speaking during an appearance on the Mic On podcast at the weekend, Olarewaju argued that a scenario where Jonathan secures the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket and Atiku runs under another party, such as the African Democratic Congress (ADC), would leave the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) without a strong electoral base.

According to him, “If Goodluck Jonathan can come into the primaries, contest in a competitive process and win, we all will support him. But if Jonathan runs on the PDP and Atiku or someone else runs on the ADC, APC loses. The APC will have no base in the 2027 election.”

Olarewaju, however, cast doubt on the PDP’s current strength, asserting that the once-dominant opposition party has lost its national appeal.

“The PDP is no longer the force it once was. It has become a mere vehicle to satisfy ethnic interests. While it may still remain relevant in some states, at the national level, it is no longer fit for purpose,” he added.
