2027: Those Talking About Defeating Us Are Living In Denial — Kwankwaso

Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed claims that his political movement would be defeated in the 2027 general elections, describing such assumptions as “wishful thinking and pure denial.”

Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa as part of activities marking his birthday celebration, the former Kano State governor insisted that the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement remained a formidable political force, particularly in Northern Nigeria.

Kwankwaso, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP platform, maintained that the country’s political dynamics had changed significantly, noting that young Nigerians were now more politically conscious and less susceptible to vote buying.

“Those making noise about defeating us in 2027 are living in denial. Things have changed — young people are now more politically aware,” he said.

According to him, the era when financial inducement determined electoral outcomes was fast fading, as Nigerians were becoming more discerning about leadership choices.

“The coming election will not be like previous ones where money determined everything. The people now know better,” Kwankwaso stated.

He expressed optimism that the 2027 elections would be conducted more transparently than in the past, adding that his movement’s strength lies in its focus on service and people-oriented governance.

“We are confident of victory because our movement is people-oriented and based on service. Those who betrayed the cause will see the result of their actions at the polls,” he added.

Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence and two-term governor, has continued to command strong grassroots support in parts of the North through the Kwankwasiyya movement, which has evolved into a major political force within the NNPP.
