President Bola Tinubu has relieved Fegho John Umunubo of his duties as Special Assistant on Digital and Creative Economy in the Office of the Vice President.
The decision, announced in a statement issued yesterday by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye, takes immediate effect.
According to the release, stakeholders in the digital and creative economy, both within and outside the country, were notified of Umunubo’s disengagement, with a clear directive not to conduct business with him on behalf of the Presidency.
While no official explanation was provided for the sudden move, insider sources hinted that the development might not be unconnected with recent controversies surrounding the N5 billion Creative Fund initiative. Reports suggest that Umunubo had earlier been placed on suspension on September 2, following alleged breaches tied to contractual obligations under the scheme.
The development has stirred conversation among players in the digital and creative industry, with many awaiting clarity on the government’s next steps in managing a sector regarded as one of Nigeria’s strongest drivers of youth empowerment and innovation.
