Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has faulted the Presidency for launching verbal attacks on former President Goodluck Jonathan instead of addressing the rising insecurity in parts of the country.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Monday, Oseni took a swipe at the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, accusing him of trivialising the plight of Nigerians in Kwara South who are battling banditry.
“Mr Onanuga is busy attacking Jonathan while people are running for safety due to bandits’ activities in Kwara South. Our leaders don’t have empathy at all,” Oseni lamented.
His reaction followed a statement issued by Onanuga earlier on Monday, where the presidential aide dismissed renewed calls for Jonathan to join the 2027 race. Onanuga had argued that the former president’s administration was responsible for laying the foundation of Nigeria’s current economic difficulties.
“We cannot forget in a hurry how his regime, devoid of any clear economic agenda, engaged in frivolous spending, ran the economy aground, and put the country in dire straits. The downturn that President Tinubu is working very hard to overcome actually began under Jonathan,” Onanuga alleged.
The comments have further fuelled political tension as speculations mount over possible alliances and strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, residents of several communities in Kwara South have repeatedly cried out over worsening attacks by armed groups, with calls on the Federal Government to act swiftly to restore security and protect livelihoods.
