The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced a five-day nationwide warning strike to commence on Friday, September 12, 2025.
The union said the decision followed an emergency virtual meeting of its National Executive Council, which stretched into the early hours of Thursday, September 11.
According to a statement signed by the General Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Dr Agbor Affiong, the industrial action will run from 8 a.m. on Friday, September 12, to Tuesday, September 16.
The statement read in part, “After extensive deliberations at the NARD E-NEC meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, and concluded on Thursday, September 11, members unanimously resolved to embark on a five-day warning strike. All centres are hereby directed to notify their hospital managements accordingly.”
NARD President, Dr Osundara Zenith, had earlier disclosed that resident doctors were left with no option but to down tools due to what he described as poor working conditions, inadequate facilities, poor remuneration, downgrading of certificates, and other unresolved issues.
It was also gathered that doctors in the FCT have already embarked on a separate seven-day warning strike, which commenced on Monday, adding to the wave of industrial unrest within the health sector.
