The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mubarak Bello, for allegedly being in possession of arms and impersonating a police officer.
Bello, who hails from Kofar Yamma Quarters in Kurfi Local Government Area, was picked up around 2:30am on Saturday during a routine patrol.
In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, said the suspect was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number GGE 473 BH.
“Upon questioning, the suspect could not give a convincing account of himself or the vehicle. A search was conducted, and dangerous items were recovered,” the statement read in part.
According to the police, items found in the vehicle included a locally fabricated rifle, four live cartridges, two expended shells, a fake police identity card bearing the rank of Assistant Superintendent, and an extra plate number marked Kano FGE 68.
Aliyu added that the arrest was made possible through “heightened vigilance and proactive policing strategies” aimed at curbing crime in the state.
The police confirmed that the suspect is in custody and undergoing interrogation, while investigations continue to unravel how he came about the firearm and fake credentials.
The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, assured residents that the command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks in the state.
