The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the death of Master Ebuka Chukwu, a Senior Secondary School 2 student of the Federal Government College, Okposi, in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this on Sunday during a peaceful protest staged by members of the Okposi-Okwu community over the incident.
The protesters, who carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Who killed Ebuka?”, “Evil people are running FGC Okposi,” and “IGP, stop the killing and bring justice,” demanded answers from both the school management and security agencies.
Speaking during the protest, a community leader, Mr. Collins Agwu, expressed dismay over the circumstances surrounding Ebuka’s death. He cited an autopsy report which allegedly confirmed that the teenager was killed before his body was dumped in a stream.
Agwu further queried why a staff member of the school, identified as Mr. Danjuma, allegedly instructed Ebuka and other students to confront suspected hoodlums on July 27, 2025, an assignment that reportedly led to his death.
“We want justice to prevail, and those behind Ebuka’s death to be unmasked. The school management is playing politics with this incident,” he said.
Another indigene, Mr. Chiadikaobi Obasi, alleged that local students and staff had been subjected to maltreatment by the school authorities, warning that the community should not be pushed beyond its limits.
Reacting, the Vice Principal of the college, Mr. Ojima O. Emmanuel, described the incident as tragic and assured the protesters that the institution would cooperate fully with police investigations to unravel the truth.
Meanwhile, police authorities said investigations were ongoing and that those arrested would be charged in court once culpability is established.
