The Offa Students Union (OSU), National Headquarters, earlier today held its annual summer school prize-giving ceremony at the Offa Grammar School Auditorium, Kwara State.
The programme, which commenced on August 4, came to a close after six weeks of intensive academic and extracurricular activities.
In his opening remarks, the National President of OSU, Comrade Mustapha Taiye Abdulbasit, expressed gratitude to God for the success of the project. He also commended the volunteer teachers for dedicating their time and energy to the students.
“Thank you for your endurance and steadfastness in bringing the programme to success,” he said.
Abdulbasit further appreciated the sponsors, senior colleagues and supporters of the project, while urging students to put the knowledge gained to good use and excel in their academic pursuits.
Delivering the first lecture, Comrade Babatunde Adigun, Chief Press Secretary to the Offa Local Government Chairman and Deputy Coordinator of NANS Zone C, charged the students to remain focused and committed to their future.
“The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams. You cannot attain that future without a solid foundation,” he said.
Also speaking, Barrister Kunle Opoola, Chairman of the Lead Club, Offa, donated 300 exercise books and ₦50,000 to support the programme. He advised the students to face their studies with seriousness while appreciating the organisers of the initiative.
In his remarks, Hon. Bolaji Abdulrauf (BJ) lauded the organisers and promised WAEC scholarships for the three best graduating students from the Arts, Science and Commercial departments. He also pledged one-year scholarships for the first, second and third-place students from JSS1 to SSS3.
Similarly, Hon. Giwa Muzemeel Kehinde promised scholarships for 10 secondary school students.
The event featured debate, cultural displays, choreography, sensitisation drama and other activities.
Dignitaries present at the occasion included representatives of the Offa Local Government Chairman, Comr. Abdulazeez Babatunde; SSA to the LG Chairman on Student Affairs, Hon. Olarinoye Lateefat; and ALM Foundation Director, Hon. Abdullah Badmus. Others were Hon. Adebisi Muhammed Oroye, Mr. Kayode Akinola, Hon. Lawal Nurudeen Àkèré and several student leaders.
Notable comrades in attendance included Mallam Jubril Olaide, Comr. Soliu Mubarak Olaiya, and Comr. Sulaiman Abdullah, among others.
