The much-anticipated Tech Ethics & Solutions (TES) 2025 Programme kicked off today, Tuesday, September 23 at Offa Grammar School, Kwara State.
The opening sessions as been described as “timely and impactful” in shaping young Nigerians into responsible digital citizens.
Organised by the Hadis Foundation in partnership with global civic body Luminate, the three-day event is themed “Empowering Digital Citizens for a Brighter Future.”
It seeks to equip adolescents, teachers, and caregivers with the skills to navigate the fast-changing digital world responsibly.
The Day One session, which ran from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, featured a mix of lectures, surveys, and interactive discussions.
Declaring the programme open, Mr. Abdullahi Abdulkadir, Hadis Programme Officer for Kwara State, reinforced the importance of preparing young people for the opportunities and challenges of a technology-driven society.
A short pre-assessment survey conducted by Imam Saudat revealed the varying levels of digital knowledge among students, setting the tone for deeper engagement.
Project Coordinator, Dr. Gafar Isiaka, outlined the learning goals for the day.
He urged participants to see technology not just as a tool but also as a force that influences behaviour, social interaction, and opportunities.
One of the highlights was a lively session led by Mr. Olanipekun Pius Oluwafisanjo, who explained the definitions, types, and impact of technology.
Students eagerly shared examples of gadgets and apps that shape their daily lives.
Discussions later turned to the risks of unchecked digital use, with students voicing concerns about internet safety, distractions, and excessive screen time.
The session, moderated by Imam Saudat, provided a safe space for them to share personal experiences.
In her recap, Miss Bello Khadijat stressed the importance of digital awareness and self-discipline, reminding participants that technology, though beneficial, must be managed responsibly.
Day One closed with a call for students to embrace digital ethics and wellness, laying the groundwork for subsequent sessions that will focus on responsible online behaviour and the role of parents, teachers, and caregivers in nurturing digital citizens.
TES 2025 continues tomorrow with sessions expected to dive deeper into digital ethics and responsible use of technology.
