The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday, staged a peaceful protest in Ibadan over what it described as the victimisation of one of its lawmakers, Hon. Ibraheem Shittu.
The demonstration, which began in the early hours at the APC secretariat in Oke Ado, attracted party faithful, including the State Chairman, Alhaji Olayide Abas, and other stalwarts.
Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency in the House of Assembly, recently alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde secured approval for a controversial ₦300 billion loan in an emergency sitting. Since raising the alarm, the lawmaker has reportedly received a series of threats, prompting the party to rally in his defence.
Addressing journalists at the protest, Alhaji Abas said the action was meant to express solidarity with Shittu and to ensure his safety.
“We are here to show support for our lawmaker, who took a bold step in speaking against the loan. The APC is solidly behind him. The governor must not send Oyo State into perpetual indebtedness. We are not satisfied with the handling of previous loans, and the people deserve accountability,” Abas declared.
He further disclosed that the party had submitted a protest letter to the relevant authorities, urging Governor Makinde not to victimise Shittu.
“The process to rescue Oyo State from financial recklessness has begun, and we shall not relent,” the chairman added.
