The ancient town of Ila Orangun has been thrown into mourning following the death of Olori Abosede Funmilayo, wife of the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Iyanda Oyedotun.
The late Olori was reported to have died on Thursday, though details surrounding her passing were still sketchy at the time of filing this report.
Her demise has left a deep void in the palace and across the Ila Orangun community, where she was widely regarded as a woman of grace, humility, and devotion.
In a condolence message shared online, a United Kingdom–based cleric from Ila, Pastor Adelani Ayeni, described the loss as monumental.
He wrote, “Olori Abosede Funmilayo, the Eesaya Orangun Ile Ila, was a devoted wife, a faithful servant of God, and the beloved consort of Alaiyeluwa Oba Wahab Iyanda Oyedotun, Bibire I. Her passing is a great loss to the Royal Institution and the entire Ila Orangun community.”
The cleric further revealed that the Olori had recently mentioned she was recovering from an illness. “It grieves my heart that you are gone so soon. May the Lord comfort Baba Kabiyesi, your children, the royal household, and the Ila community,” he said.
Tributes have continued to pour in from residents and indigenes of Ila, many of whom remembered the late Olori as prayerful, motherly, and deeply committed to the well-being of her people.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the palace in the coming days.
