The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man, identified as Wale Ibrahim, for allegedly stabbing 25-year-old Fisayo Ajetumobi to death during a heated dispute in Litaye Camp, Ondo East Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday in Akure that the incident occurred on September 13 around 6:30 p.m. at a construction site along Lake Road, Litaye Camp.
According to police investigations, Ibrahim had gone to demand the sum of N14,000 from one Gabriel Oyeniran, whom he had earlier supplied wood. The encounter, however, escalated into a quarrel, during which Ibrahim reportedly became violent.
“In the process, the suspect, Wale Ibrahim, stabbed one Fisayo Ajetumobi, who was at the scene, inflicting a fatal wound on his chest,” Ayanlade said.
The victim was said to have died on the spot, while the suspect was subdued and handed over to the police. Following the conclusion of investigations, the matter has been charged to court.
Describing the killing as “senseless and avoidable,” the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, warned that the command would not tolerate acts of violence under any guise.
He urged residents to embrace peaceful and lawful means of settling disputes while assuring that the police remained committed to safeguarding lives and property.
“The police will continue to intensify efforts in crime prevention, but we call on members of the public to assist us with credible information that can help us act swiftly,” Lawal said.
