The Speaker of the Offa Local Government Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Mustapha Olawale Sharafa, on Friday inspected the ongoing gutter cleaning exercise at the Total–Owode Market.

The exercise, according to him, is aimed at enhancing the free flow of water, curbing flooding, and promoting environmental sanitation within the bustling market.

Sharafa, who was accompanied by his team, described the initiative as part of his administration’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for traders, residents, and visitors.

He said effective waste management remained central to improving the overall quality of life in Offa, adding that the market exercise was just one of many steps being taken to strengthen sanitation across the local government.

“Together, we can achieve a cleaner Offa by adopting proper waste disposal habits and supporting our waste management team in their efforts to keep our environment clean and healthy,” the Speaker said.

The Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Olawole Jubril (FMJ Ibolo), in a statement, noted that the exercise reinforced the Speaker’s resolve to sustain initiatives that directly impact the well-being of the people.

Residents and market stakeholders commended the effort, describing it as timely, especially as the rainy season heightens the risk of flooding in the area.
