A 37-year-old man has stirred controversy online after announcing plans to abandon his wife and child upon discovering that the girl he had raised for nearly a decade was not biologically his.
The unnamed father, believed to be American, took to Reddit to narrate how a heated argument with his wife led to the shocking revelation. During the row, his spouse reportedly blurted out that their nine-year-old daughter might not be his.
According to him, the remark haunted him to the point that he secretly conducted a paternity test, only to confirm his worst fears. The result showed that the child was not his biological daughter.
“When I found out, I confronted my wife. She begged me not to divorce her, but I couldn’t accept the betrayal,” he wrote.
The man disclosed that the child’s biological father had died years ago, leaving his wife to raise her alone before their marriage. Despite this, he insisted he could no longer continue with the relationship.
“I don’t want to raise a child that isn’t mine, nor do I want to keep paying for her. She cheated, and that’s unforgivable,” he said, adding that his family and friends supported his decision to walk away.
His stance has, however, sparked outrage online. Many Reddit users criticised him, accusing him of turning his back on a child who has known him as her only father. Some branded him “a bad dad” and “totally messed up,” while others insisted the innocent child should not suffer for her mother’s actions.
