The Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, is dead.
Akinola passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, becoming the fifth female local government official to die in Lagos State within two months.
Her death was confirmed in a statement by the Forum of Council Managers, which read: “With total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Student League, Lagos Division, in a condolence message, described her as a dedicated public servant and mother figure. It extended condolences to the Coker Aguda community, Surulere Local Government and her family, praying for strength to bear the loss.
Akinola’s death adds to recent fatalities among female local government officials in the state. On August 13, Councillor Oluwakemi Rufai of Ward C, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, died shortly after her swearing-in. Five days later, Councillor Zainab Shotayo of Ward C, Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, also passed on.
In September, Princess Oluremi Nutayi Ajose, Vice Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, died on the 20th, while Councillor Basirat Oluwakemi Mayabikan of Ward F, Somolu Local Government, died the next day.
The series of deaths has triggered shock across Lagos councils, with many describing the development as unprecedented.
