Lafarge Africa Plc has deepened its investment footprint in Lagos with the commissioning of a new ReadyMix facility, tagged the Freedom Plant, in the Lekki corridor.
The state-of-the-art facility, unveiled yesterday, is designed to strengthen the firm’s role in Nigeria’s infrastructure growth, while advancing its global sustainability agenda.
Equipped with a fully automated batching system, the plant allows seamless remote operations with real-time data transfer and modification. This, according to the company, makes it possible to manage the plant securely from any part of the world.
Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Africa, Mr. Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, described the project as a reaffirmation of the company’s long-term commitment to innovation and sustainability.
“The launch of the Freedom Plant further increases and strengthens our commitment to Building Progress for People and the Planet. For us, this facility is not just about production, but about expanding the frontiers of innovation, meeting Nigeria’s growing demand locally, and empowering our people through job creation and skills development,” he said.
Incorporating features that minimise emissions and boost energy efficiency, the new plant will also focus on producing eco-friendly building solutions in line with Lafarge Africa’s climate-conscious operations.
On his part, the Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix at Lafarge Africa, Mr. Derek Williamson, emphasised the strategic importance of the new plant in consolidating the company’s presence in Lagos.
“This development complements our expansion strategy across Nigeria. At present, we have footprints in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos. The Lekki plant is a major step in strengthening our Lagos operations,” Williamson said.
Industry watchers see the investment as a response to the surging demand for durable construction solutions in Lagos, a city fast emerging as West Africa’s business hub.
The new plant, stakeholders noted, also demonstrates the readiness of Lafarge Africa—part of the Holcim Group—to balance profitability with environmental responsibility, a priority that has become central in today’s cement and concrete industry.
