The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman, Iluyemi Bosede, for allegedly killing her elder sister, Tewogboye Omowumi, during a quarrel over ₦800 in Akure.
Police spokesman, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, noting that it occurred on September 6 at about 8:00 p.m.
According to him, trouble started when Bosede demanded payment for tomatoes and pepper worth ₦800 from her 35-year-old sister. The argument soon spiralled into a scuffle during which Bosede allegedly held on to Omowumi’s clothes, causing her to slump.
“She was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival,” Olushola stated.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, described the case as “tragic and avoidable,” urging residents to shun violence in resolving domestic disputes.
“Disputes, no matter how small, should be resolved through dialogue and not violence. This case shows how avoidable quarrels can end in tragedy,” Lawal said.
The police boss assured that the suspect would be charged to court, stressing the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives across the state.
