It was a historic gathering on Sunday, September 7, 2025, as Oyun Local Government played host to the monthly unification meeting of House of Assembly Members and Executive Chairmen of Kwara South extraction.

The meeting, which took place in Igosun, Oyun Local Government, was hosted by the Council Chairman, Hon. Kamar Akanbi.

The initiative, which is rotated across the seven local government areas of Kwara South, is the first of its kind in the political history of the state. It is designed to deepen unity, progress, and sustainable development across the senatorial district.

Those in attendance included key lawmakers such as the Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola (Oke Ogun Constituency), the Chief Whip, Hon. Gani Abolarin (Ekiti), Hon. Seun Ogunniyi (Ojomu Balogun), Hon. Shola Odetundun (Irepodun), Hon. Rasaq Omotosho (Isin), Hon. Joseph Bamgboye (Oke-Ero), Hon. AGF Salahuddeen (Omupo), and Hon. Gbenga Yussuf (Eesa/Shawo/Igbodun).

Also present were Executive Chairmen, including Hon. Abdulazeez Yakub (Irepodun), Hon. James Fadipe (Oke Ero), Hon. Femi Yusuf (Ifelodun), Hon. Sulaiman Olatunji (Offa), Hon. Wale Awelewa (Ekiti), and Chief Benjamin Jolayemi (Isin).

The host local government paraded its heavyweights led by Senator Bisi Oyewo, Engr. Makanjuola, Hon. Muritala Olanrewaju, Engr. Jimoh Alao, Hon. Joshua Omokanye Jalala, Capt. Taiwo Popoola, and Alhaji Imran Adebayo, among others.

The Oyun Legislative Council led by Hon. Omotayo Ayanlere, the acting APC chairman, Mr. Michael Adewoye, and the Kwara South Equity Advocate Group were equally in attendance.

The meeting also witnessed a wave of defections, as notable opposition figures in Oyun decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The new entrants cited the inclusive leadership style of Hon. Akanbi and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ojo Olayiwola, as well as the performance of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, as their motivation to leave the “sinking ship” of the PDP for the APC.

In their resolutions, the leaders and stakeholders reaffirmed their unalloyed loyalty to Governor AbdulRazaq, commending his proactive steps in addressing insecurity and urging residents to rally behind government efforts against banditry and kidnapping.

They also pledged continued support for the governor’s policies and programmes while aligning with the growing call for Kwara North to produce the next governor in 2027, citing equity, fairness, and justice.

In a significant political move, the gathering endorsed the candidacy of Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi for the 2027 governorship race, describing him as a vibrant and steady hand with an impressive record of service to the state.

The unification meeting, stakeholders agreed, will continue to serve as a rallying platform for entrenching peace, stability, and progress in Kwara South.
