A member of the House of Representatives representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State, Dr. Adamu Ahmed Saba, has threatened legal action against Sahara Reporters over what he described as a defamatory publication linking him to a fraudulent job racket.
The embattled lawmaker, through his legal team, on Friday demanded a public apology and immediate retraction of the story within seven days, warning that failure to comply would compel him to seek redress in court.
The online platform had, in a report dated September 18, 2025, alleged that Saba defrauded one of his legislative aides, Ahmed Kabir, of N5 million under the guise of securing a non-existent job.
But Saba’s counsel, Mohammed Ndayako (SAN), dismissed the report as false, insisting that Kabir was not a victim but a duly appointed aide of the lawmaker.
“It is our client’s brief that on the 18th of September, 2025, without verifying or affording him the opportunity to respond to the allegations, Sahara Reporters published a scandalous and defamatory story with the caption: ‘House of Reps Member Adamu Saba Accused of Defrauding Constituent of N5 Million in Fake Job Appointment,’” the lawyer stated in a letter dated September 22, 2025, and made available to journalists in Ilorin.
Ndayako argued that a simple check with the National Assembly Service Commission would have revealed Kabir’s status as a legislative aide, adding that the report was a deliberate attempt to tarnish Saba’s reputation.
To buttress the claim, the legal team presented copies of Kabir’s appointment letter, staff identity card, and salary pay slip to reporters.
“The said publication constitutes a calculated ploy to smear the image our client has painstakingly built both in Nigeria and beyond,” the lawyer added.
The lawmaker, who described the allegation as “baseless and malicious,” said he remained committed to serving his constituency and would not be distracted by what he called “fabricated stories.”
