The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has dismissed what it described as “falsehoods and political propaganda” by Professor Gana Yisa, a former member of the party who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Yisa, in a newspaper interview, had alleged that PDP members in the state were banking on a secret deal with President Bola Tinubu to take over power in 2027, a claim the opposition party branded as laughable and misleading.
In a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP accused Yisa of peddling lies in order to remain politically relevant, while also working hand-in-hand with Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration to weaken the opposition.
“We understand where this concoction is coming from,” the PDP said. “But it is necessary to remind Prof. Gana and his sponsors that Kwara PDP did not rely on President Tinubu or any handshake from Abuja to demonstrate the electoral strength we displayed in the last local government elections — strength that Gana himself admitted indicated PDP overwhelmingly won before the process was subverted.”
The party also faulted Yisa’s claim that it failed to challenge the alleged manipulation of the council polls in court, insisting that PDP candidates in Patigi, Offa, Ilorin South, Irepodun, and several other LGAs filed petitions at election tribunals.
The PDP further accused Yisa of double standards, alleging that he made no financial contributions to support candidates or litigation in his own local government.
“Is it not shameful that the PDP ‘big man’ could not even pay the ₦25,000 nomination fee for a councillorship aspirant in his domain until Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki rallied support to ensure candidates did not miss the deadline?” the statement queried.
The party alleged that Yisa’s alliance with Governor Abdulrazaq was aimed at discrediting the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections, but stressed that Kwarans were already disillusioned with the APC government.
“No amount of propaganda from political contractors masquerading as opposition will change the reality of suffering, insecurity, and poverty that the Abdulrahman government has inflicted on Kwarans,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to grassroots mobilisation, the PDP vowed to continue consolidating its structures across the state, while expressing confidence in its capacity to reclaim power in 2027.
“Kwarans already know that only the PDP has the structure, the spread, and the sincerity to deliver them from the total failure represented by the APC,” the statement concluded.
