I’m Ready To Join APC, But With Clear Terms — Kwankwaso

Former Kano State governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared his readiness to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but only on clearly spelt-out terms.

Speaking in Kano, Kwankwaso reminded Nigerians of his role in the merger that birthed the APC, recalling how he and his associates faced what he described as “threats and intimidation” from security agencies during the formation of the party.

“If you said I should enter APC, I want to join APC, and I didn’t say I will not join APC even now, but for what position?” Kwankwaso asked pointedly.

The NNPP chieftain, however, made it clear that he was not desperate to abandon his current platform, stressing that any future alliance must be built on fairness, honesty, and mutual respect.

“We’re not in a hurry to leave the NNPP; we’re happy,” he said. “However, if there is anyone who wants to work with us truthfully and will not abandon us as before, we are ready.”

Kwankwaso, who has remained a central figure in northern politics, also hinted at a possible return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the party could admit its past mistakes and show genuine commitment to reforms.

He lamented that despite his contributions to the APC’s rise to power in 2015, he and his group were marginalised throughout former President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight-year administration.

According to him, “We were not given anything, not even a thank you. When we left for PDP, even there, we were denied a Zonal Chairman. They thought if we left, we would enter a bush and die. But today, whoever mentions Nigerian politicians must mention Kwankwaso.”
