Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, has described Ibadan as a city central to Nigeria’s political, social and economic advancement.
Obi stated this on Sunday when he paid homage to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.
The former governor was accompanied by the Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, alongside the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Mr Yunusa Tanko, and other associates. The delegation arrived at the Bodija home of the former Oyo State governor around 10:55 a.m.
Speaking during the visit, Obi said Ibadan has always played a pivotal role in the shaping of Nigeria’s history and remains a critical hub for national development.
He said, “This visit is about Nigeria, selfless leadership and a commitment to turning our society around. Ibadan is very strategic and central to the development of Nigeria. As a former senator, governor and business tycoon, Oba Ladoja possesses the experience and vision to lead Ibadan to an enviable height, and I will support him as Olubadan for the sake of one Nigeria.”
Obi further recalled Ibadan’s historical contributions to education, pointing to the University of Ibadan as an institution that has produced leaders and professionals making significant impacts across the world.
He stressed that the city’s influence on national affairs cannot be overemphasised, urging unity and purposeful leadership for the progress of the country.
