Medical services in the Federal Capital Territory may suffer setbacks as resident doctors under the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD-FCT) have embarked on a seven-day warning strike.

The industrial action was confirmed in a communique signed by the ARD-FCT President, Dr. George Ebong, alongside other members of the executive council.

According to the group, the health sector in the FCT has been grappling with what they termed “years of systemic neglect” and is in dire need of urgent and far-reaching reforms.

Dr. Ebong explained that medical practitioners in the territory are overstretched, with many compelled to cover multiple departments due to inadequate staffing. He added that the situation, if left unchecked, could further endanger the quality of healthcare delivery in Abuja and its environs.
