A Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered the remand of a middle-aged man, identified simply as Ibrahim, for allegedly killing his daughter’s boyfriend.
The tragic incident, which occurred near the popular Corpers’ Lodge along New Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti, has thrown the community into shock.
It was learnt that the deceased had gone to visit his girlfriend at her father’s residence when the suspect, visibly displeased with the relationship, confronted him. Witnesses alleged that Ibrahim, with the support of his siblings, descended heavily on the young man, inflicting severe injuries that eventually led to his death from excessive bleeding.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu, said the father and two other accomplices have been arraigned before the court and subsequently remanded in a correctional facility.
He assured that the matter would be diligently prosecuted to ensure justice for the deceased.
The court, presided over by the magistrate, ordered that the suspects remain in custody pending further legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The incident has sparked public outrage, with residents describing it as a needless tragedy borne out of uncontrolled anger and misplaced cultural sentiment.
