A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the eviction of ace comedian, Ali Baba, from a highbrow Victoria Island property he acquired through the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
The enforcement, which also affected his media outfit, XQZMOI TV, followed a writ of possession issued on 15 August 2025.
The property, initially purchased by Ali Baba for N220 million in 2021, was among assets AMCON claimed to have seized in its bid to recover debts allegedly owed by Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited.
However, in a ruling delivered on 31 July 2025, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa dismissed AMCON’s claims, stressing that the corporation failed to substantiate its allegations. The court not only ordered that the property be restored to its rightful owner but also slammed a N500 million damages fine on AMCON.
Reports indicate that Ali Baba’s predicament stemmed from the timing of the transaction. Though he was a tenant of the property’s original owner, he went ahead to purchase the property while litigation was still ongoing, in spite of a subsisting preservation order.
The ruling has since triggered fresh conversations in legal and entertainment circles on the risks of property acquisition amid unresolved court battles.
