The Executive Chairman of Offa Local Government Area, Hon. Sulaiman Olatunji Laaro Omituntun, has dismissed allegations questioning the transparency of the recently commissioned 1.1km Anilelerin–Ayaba–Iyeru Okin Road asphaltic road project in the town.
He described the claims as “cheap propaganda” driven by desperation.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Abiola Azeez Babatunde yesterday, the council chairman maintained that the road construction followed due process, was transparently executed, and had the full backing of relevant stakeholders in Offa.
He explained that the project was advertised in national dailies in line with procurement laws, with three companies—Skylat-One Nigeria Ltd, Mateeni Nig. Ltd, and Peace One Ltd—bidding for the contract.
After proper evaluation, Peace One Ltd emerged the most qualified and was awarded the job.
“All tender documents, receipts, and processes are intact and available for public scrutiny,” the statement said.
The LG boss also stressed that the project was duly supervised and monitored, with the Kwara State Commissioner for Local Government inspecting the work on three different occasions to verify quality.
He argued that it was misleading for critics to insinuate that the project was a Federal Government initiative.
“Our traditional ruler, the Olofa of Offa, the Chief Imam, and other key community stakeholders were aware of the project from inception to commissioning. Their presence at the flag-off and commissioning ceremonies is testimony to the legitimacy of this project,” he added.
Hon. Omituntun accused his critics—especially those who lost in the last local government election—of attempting to distort facts and mislead the public.
He acknowledged that opposition plays a role in democracy.
“Offa people are intelligent and progressive. No amount of blackmail will derail our vision of Offa Tuntun. Every kobo that comes to this council will continue to be judiciously used for projects that impact lives directly,” the statement concluded.
The 1.1km Anilelerin–Ayaba–Iyeru Okin Road road project, already in use by residents, is one of the flagship projects of the current Offa LG administration on Tuesday, as part of activities to celebrate his one year anniversary in office.
The road was flagged off on March 7, 2025.
