Bandits on Thursday night launched a deadly attack on worshippers observing Isha prayer in Matazu town, Katsina State, leaving several people dead and others injured.
A security analyst, who goes by the name Bakatsine, disclosed the incident in a post on X on Friday. He stated that the assailants stormed a mosque in the town while prayers were in session, opening fire on the congregation.
“Yesterday night, bandits attacked Matazu town in Katsina State, during Isha prayer, killing and injuring worshippers. Government must act urgently because the attacks on worshippers in the Northwest region are becoming too frequent,” his post read.
The latest assault adds to the series of violent raids that have continued to unsettle rural communities in Katsina and other parts of the Northwest, where residents have endured killings, kidnappings and destruction of property in recent years.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Katsina State had yet to release an official statement on the attack.
