The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Aderemi Oseni, has declared that the All Progressives Congress will bounce back to power in Oyo State come 2027.
Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, expressed optimism during an interview in Lagos on Sunday, stressing that the party had learnt “bitter lessons” from both the 2023 governorship defeat and a recent by-election loss.
“Fundamental mistakes were made, and everyone in the party acknowledges that. We have gone back to the drawing board and are already working towards a stronger comeback,” the lawmaker said.
According to him, efforts are ongoing to rebuild the APC in Oyo, with leaders and members uniting to provide an alternative to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
Oseni, who described himself as “not overly ambitious”, said his main concern was the revival of the party, though he would be willing to take on higher responsibilities if called upon. He revealed that his support group, the Remi Oseni Committee of Friends, with over 200,000 members, had begun grassroots mobilisation across the state.
“That is my contribution to repositioning the APC in Oyo,” he explained.
The federal lawmaker, an engineer by profession, argued that APC’s chances in 2027 would depend on credible candidate selection. He urged party leaders to prioritise competence, fairness, and wide consultations, especially on the contentious issue of zoning.
“Most governors have emerged from Ibadan in Oyo South. People are asking why Oyo Central and Oyo North are often sidelined. There is a need for fairness in rotating the governorship seat among the three zones,” he said.
Oseni appealed to political elders to broker an understanding between Ibarapa, Ibadan, and Oke-Ogun, warning that without equity, disunity could weaken the party’s prospects.
He concluded that APC’s rebirth in Oyo rested on unity, strategy, and justice in leadership choices, stressing: “We must work together to take the party back to winning ways.”
