The Ajase-Ipo Descendants Union (ADU) has faulted the decision of the seven local government chairmen in Kwara South Senatorial District to shut down all Kara (cattle) markets in the zone.
The Union insists that the Kara Market in Ajase-Ipo would remain open for business.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Public Relations Officer, Hon. Balogun Monsuru Alabi, the union said the directive came on the orders of the Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ismail Yahaya Atoloye Muhammed.
ADU described the shutdown order announced by the local government chairmen as “reckless, undemocratic and a breach of protocol.”.
It added that that such far-reaching decisions should not be taken without consultation with traditional rulers and community stakeholders.
“The recent decision to unilaterally shut down Kara markets across Kwara South without due consultation with the traditional rulers of the affected communities is, to say the least, reckless and a fundamental breach of protocol. Such an action is uncivilized, undemocratic, and stands condemned in its entirety,” the statement read in part.
The LG chairmen, under the aegis of the Forum of Seven Local Government Chairmen, had on Friday announced the immediate closure of Kara markets in Kwara South as part of efforts to strengthen security in the region following recent attacks.
They also directed that all other produce markets should close by 6:00 p.m. on market days.
But ADU maintained that Ajase-Ipo remains peaceful and law-abiding, adding that Kara Market is a vital hub of commerce and livelihood for traders and residents.
Oba Muhammed was said to have enjoined residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious activities in order to prevent kidnapping or other forms of insecurity.
The union further reassured the public of its commitment to the safety, progress, and prosperity of Ajase-Ipo, while reaffirming its alignment with the Olupo’s directive to keep the Kara Market operational.

The Ajase-Ipo Descendants Union (ADU) wishes to inform the general public, under the directive of His Royal Majesty, Oba Ismail Yahaya Atoloye Muhammed, Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, that the Kara Market shall continue to operate on every official market day.
Kara Market, being a vital hub of commerce and livelihood, will remain open for all traders and buyers to lawfully conduct their businesses without hindrance.
The recent decision to unilaterally shut down Kara markets across Kwara South without due consultation with the traditional rulers of the affected communities is, to say the least, reckless and a fundamental breach of protocol. Such an action is uncivilized, undemocratic, and stands condemned in its entirety. The Local Government Chairmen are reminded that they are not military administrators, and governance must always respect established institutions and community stakeholders.
Ajase-Ipo remains a peaceful and law-abiding community, firmly committed to unity, order, and development. His Royal Majesty has further enjoined all indigenes and residents to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious persons or movements within the community. This shared responsibility is key to ensuring that no one falls victim to kidnapping or any form of insecurity.
